ONSCREEN was founded to fight that. We started with a deceptively simple idea: make video calling as easy as watching TV, so seniors and their families could stay close regardless of distance.

From a spark to a platform
ONSCREEN Is Born and Ignites the Spark
During the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic, ONSCREEN was founded with one idea: transform the television into the easiest possible video communication screen. We began initial development of the ONSCREEN Spark, and quickly launched for holiday sales on Amazon — beginning a period of fast learning. Early feedback revealed a deeper need among older adults — especially those with dementia or limited technical ability — and the company shifted its focus entirely toward senior care.
ONSCREEN Spark and Learning from Real Customers
The ONSCREEN Spark gave us the opportunity to discover an unserved market: family caregivers that were desperate for a solution to connect with their loved ones — but a simple solution didn't exist. We became committed to building this solution. This period was foundational — it gave us real-world signal to double down on developing specifically for seniors.
Senior Care Focus: ONSCREEN Launches JoyTV
ONSCREEN launched its first TV-based senior communication device — with a fully integrated camera, far-field microphones, speaker, simple button for calling, camera shutter for privacy, and more. This product was the evolution of the Spark, which proved that families were yearning for a simpler way to stay connected with aging loved ones. Originally called Moment, the product has since been rebranded as JoyTV.
Joy, the AI Companion for Seniors is Born
ONSCREEN introduced Joy — an AI companion built specifically for older adults. What began as a video-calling product started evolving into a broader platform for companionship, wellness check-ins, daily routines, reminders, and caregiver support.
AARP AgeTech After Dark Winner — CES 2024
ONSCREEN won the AARP AgeTech After Dark Pitch Competition at CES 2024, earning national recognition for our approach to accessible senior technology in front of the industry's most influential voices.
AARP AgeTech Collaborative
Accepted into the prestigious AARP AgeTech Collaborative accelerator program, joining a select portfolio of companies defining the future of aging and senior care technology.
Grand Prize: CTA Foundation Digital Health Innovation Challenge — CES 2025
ONSCREEN won the Grand Prize in the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) Foundation's Digital Health Innovation Challenge at CES 2025 — recognizing how our platform's intuitive design and AI-driven functionality could serve both seniors and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The company also secured its first senior living community contract and completed the Volunteers of America Community Health Incubator this year.
ONSCREEN Joy Comes to Tablets — iPad & Android
On March 27, 2025, ONSCREEN launched the Joy app on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, turning any existing tablet into a dedicated senior care device. Joy addresses caregiver shortages, loneliness, and isolation through auto-answered video calls, personalized AI check-ins, medication reminders, wellness engagement, real-time family alerts, and a digital photo frame when idle — all on hardware families already own.
JoyCalls Launches Nationwide — AI Companion by Phone
Just in time for Grandparents Day, ONSCREEN launched Joy Calls — a friendly AI companion that checks in on seniors by phone, with no smartphone, app, or internet required. Joy delivers caring conversations, gentle reminders, and wellness check-ins to any mobile or landline, then sends caregivers a concise summary after each call. Joy speaks English, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Romanian, bringing companionship to seniors in diverse communities across the country.
JoyLiving Enterprise Platform
ONSCREEN evolved into JoyLiving — an enterprise communications and automation platform for senior living. The company launched JoyReceptionist, expanded deployments with operators including Asbury Methodist Village, and built integrations with TELS, Go Icon, WorxHub, PointClickCare, and Speak2.
CTA Foundation Shalam Award — CES 2026
ONSCREEN received the CTA Foundation John and Jane Shalam Award at CES 2026, recognizing our work in reducing isolation and loneliness among older adults through accessible technology.

ONSCREEN secured U.S. Patent 12,652,369 covering automatic answering of video calls on television, and registered the JOY trademark for AI-powered senior care and companionship software.
